Al Dente Pastificio is a pasta lab and wine shop, a hidden gem of a place to eat along Goodge Street. They make fresh pasta, authentic Italian food & serve delicious Italian wine. In particular, the open kitchen & intimate seating for up to 20 people, Al Dente Pastificio is lovely & cosy. Invited by East London Girl for a bloggers meet up, I first discovered Al Dente Pastificio.
The evening began with a glass of Prosecco and everyone impressed by the hidden cutlery draws around the large high top table. A handy way of keeping the space tidy but still having utensils conveniently accessible. For the starters, we shared the focaccia bread, Italian meats selection, some burrata, buffalo mozzarella and bruschetta with deliciously fresh tomatoes. The bruschetta was a highlight for me, I love bruschetta especially with fresh tomatoes, good quality olive oil and plenty of garlic.
Pasta wise, we got to sample four different plates of pasta. My favourite was the penne Pomodoro with tomato sauce, chilli & garlic as the fresh tomato sauce. The subtle kick from the chilli with the sweet sauce was fantastic. Also, the spaghetti carbonara was amazing, made the proper Italian way. A classic Italian spaghetti carbonara has no cream. Instead made with just egg yolks, garlic, pancetta and pecorino cheese. The green Tortellini came stuffed with spinach, mushrooms & ricotta. Lastly, the Tonnarelli with both pecorino and parmesan cheese as well as pepper.
We enjoyed both a traditional Italian tiramisu in small jars and a classic large-sized Sicilian cannoli. The desserts were my main highlight of the evening.
I highly recommend Al Dente Pastificio for anyone looking for good authentic Italian pasta as really reasonable prices. The setup of the location is great for catching up with a friend over lunch or dinner on the go.
