I designed my own Canadian Sour cocktail to enter the Drinkstagram 2020 competition. Hosted by The Cocktail Service and sponsored by Makers Mark. To enter, I had to create an original cocktail which will be marked on aesthetics, recipe, inspiration & entry post likes. Therefore for my cocktail, I created the Charlotte’s Canadian Sour.
The inspiration for my cocktail drink comes from my boyfriend. He loves Bourbon Whiskey, and he is Canadian so loves a Whiskey sour. His parents bring us over so many bottles of the proper Canadian Maple Syrup. Consequently, Maple Syrup pairs well with Bourbon Whiskey. I wanted to balance my drink with something sour as the golden rule of cocktails, for instance, is 2 parts alcohol, 1 part sweet to 1 part sour. So for my Canadian Sour, I added lemon juice with orange zest to bring through an orange flavour. I used egg whites to get the thick creamy texture for my cocktail.
To sum up I have shared my recipe below which I recommend giving it a go for any cocktail fans; it is very straightforward to make and uses ingredients that are easy to get hold of.
Ingredients for Canadian Sour, you need;
- 50ml Bourbon Whiskey, I recommend Makers Mark
- 25ml Maple Syrup
- 25ml Lemon Juice
- An Orange
- 1x Egg White
- A Cherry
- Plenty of Ice
Equipment
- Jigger
- Cocktail Shaker
- Strainer
- Mini Sieve
- Clean Jam Jar
To Make…
Firstly Add the Bourbon Whiskey, Maple Syrup, Lemon Juice & Egg White into your cocktail shaker. Zest your orange into the shaker and then add plenty of ice. Close the shaker and shake until the drink is thoroughly chilled. After that, strain your drink through the sieve into the jam jar.
Lastly, garnish with a slice of orange & a cherry. I also recommend a large ice cube to keep your drink cold whilst you drink it.
