Sticks’n’Sushi is my favourite for amazing Japanese sushi and yakitori sticks, hence the name sticks and sushi. Sticks’n’Sushi is a Copenhagen-based restaurant and takeaway brand. They have multiple locations around London and have a reputation for a high-end sushi experience. On the higher end cost-wise for sushi, but the expense is worth it for their offering.
They have restaurants in Wimbledon, Covent Garden, Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Kings Road, Victoria and Soho in London. They also have restaurants in Cambridge and Oxford outside of London. I’ve only visited their Canary Wharf and Victoria locations. Both locations combine the Scandinavian aesthetics of the brand in the decor and service style with the flare and flavourful nature of Japanese cuisine. My boyfriend and I usually opt to sit at the bar as we love being able to feel part of the action. When sitting at the bar, you can see the bartenders shaking up the various cocktails, and you can watch the fast-paced nature of the open kitchens. The ambience of the restaurant feels like there is a definite buzz but in a very relaxed and casual environment.
I highly recommend the sashimi. The fish is so fresh, its unbelievably tasty. I really love the Hotate Kataifi which includes scallops, miso aïoli, trout roe and cress. The crispy cress is insane with the softness of the scallops while being incredibly tasty. I also really enjoyed the pink Alaska roll with salmon and cream cheese as well as the Hell’s kitchen with tempura shrimp, fresh avocado and barbeque. Sticks wise, pretty much all of them are amazing. In particular, I really like the duck teriyaki, the scallops and bacon as well as the duck katsu and Emmental cheese wrapped in bacon.
Overall, Sticks’n’Sushi offers amazing sushi and sticks in vibrant, energetic spaces. I highly recommend it, and I can’t wait to return again soon!
